Gearing up for 10 hrs of Racing !
September 5th, 2008
The SSCA 10 hr of Fuji in Japan is just around the corner. Frosty StClair makes his return to the cockpit as he was in the commentator's booth at Silverstone. Chris Sommerfeld remains part of the driver lineup, this time as an official Orion Race Team member. A third driver is still to be confirmed (rumours says Haapala has been seen behind the DBR9 wheel recently..).
Practice over the last month has been challenging, with high's and lows. The mod new physics have different characteristics that suit some drivers better than others; this posed some interesting setup challenges, finding the right compromise between speed and consistancy.
The Fuji track is perhaps the most technical track in the 2008 SSCA Endurance season, featuring a very long straight that desires low downforce and big power, yet some long swooping corners that demand high downforce and can chew up tires. Finally some very technical slow corners that require great mechanical grip and a lot of precision. The driver must be very diciplined with the throttle as the car is begging for a spin in many places.
As for the championship, the battle is tight. Main rivals Simracing from Holland are tied with Orion Race Team at 113 points, and other teams are gonna be strong as well. Safe to say this will not be an easy race for Orion Race Team; the main goal is to stay infront of the SFH Corvette, but also to be up front and in the hunt for class win.
