The ProtoICE Cup came to conclusion on the famous Belgian race track Spa-Francorchamps. Orion Race Team drivers Dion Vergers and Ilkka Haapala wrapped up their season in strong fashion.

Both of our drivers had their ups and downs during the season, but showed strong performance throughout the Cup. The duo entered the season to have fun in a different type of competition and were looking for close racing. "Decided to sign up for the ProtoICE HPD series to have fun, and that turned out to be a good choice. A lot of good racing and overtaking, together with help from my trustfull teamie Ilkka, made it a great season," says Dion Vergers. Scoring three top fives and one podium, Vergers can feel good about his season. "Wasn't able to race every race unfortunatly, but was happy to see I could be quite competitive here at times and hope to take that with me into the DWC Road this year."

Ilkka Haapala drove a strong season as well and ended up 5th in the championship, despite missing the first event of the season. "Much like Dion I signed up for the series to have fun and race in a more relaxed environment compared to the iRacing World Championship. Racing was tough but fair and we were quite competitive for the most part as well, which always makes it even more fun!" Haapala scored six top five finishes and three podiums. "Last event at Spa was probably the best for me performance wise. Drove a solid first race and avoiding carnage in Race 2, I had a shot for the win. I lost a bit too much time overtaking people and ran out of laps while chasing down Pablo López, but I'm happy with that result," shared Haapala.

Both drivers are now looking forward to the 2013 iRacing.com World Championship Grand Prix Series which starts at Spa on March 2nd.
